Our training services can be tailored to whole school, department or even individual and special group needs and can be delivered on-off site. Programmes of training can be offered that are generic, cross-curricular or subject specific. Courses and modes of delivery are wide ranging. From an introduction to Word to creating your own database with Microsoft Access, there should be something for everybody.

Multimedia

The Multimedia Induction Programme (18 hours)

Although the Multimedia Induction Programme is a basic course, it does require that you:

 
 
  • have basic PC and Microsoft Windows confidence;

  • are able to carry out basic folder and file management tasks using;

  • are familiar with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint .

The purpose of this course is to provide individuals with an opportunity to:

  • raise their awareness of multimedia and the application of e-learning in the classroom;

  • explore the world of multimedia and e-learning via the assessment and evaluation of 'real life' multimedia e-learning resources and case studies;

  • acquire the resources that will allow them to plan, develop, apply, assess and evaluate multimedia e-learning resources for use within the classroom or wider school community.

The programme consists of face-to-face-support (18 hours), training and guidance over a period of 1-2 terms. This face-to-face support can be delivered in flexible blocks of time – whole day, half day or series of twilights. Participants will gain first-hand experience working with images, sound, animation and movies via ‘hands-on' activities and electronic resources provided within the course structure.

Introducing Interactive Whiteboards (4 hours)

This course is ideal for teachers who wish to make better use of their interactive whiteboard for teaching. You should have basic Windows and PC skills, but no previous experience of interactive whiteboards is necessary. Topics covered are:

  • setting up and orienting the whiteboard;

  • accessing sample lessons and resources;

  • getting to know your whiteboard's ‘toolbox';

  • understanding the power of live annotation;

  • working with external programmes such as PowerPoint or Word;

  • developing your own whiteboard lesson resources.

Elementary Multimedia - working with sound and images (4 hours)

This is a taster course for teachers who wish to find out more about image manipulation and sound. You should have basic Windows and PC skills. Topics covered are:

  • using a digital camera to capture digital images;

  • downloading images from the internet;

  • using suitable image software to manipulate and transform images;

  • recording sound voice-over and adding sound effects;

  • working with multimedia authoring or presentation software to bring together different multimedia elements e.g. sounds and images.

Exploring the WEB (2 hours)

This is a taster course for teachers who wish to find out more about the internet and email. You should have basic Windows and PC skills. Topics covered are:

  • web basics – unlocking the jargon;

  • using web search engines to find information;

  • selecting and copying text;

  • downloading and manipulating images and text;

  • multi-tasking with WORD to record your findings .

Word Processing

Introduction to WORD: Word-processing skills for beginners (2-4 hours):

This is a taster course for teachers who wish to develop their word processing skills. You should have basic Windows and PC skills. Topics covered are:

  • creating/opening/saving files;

  • using menus and icons;

  • selecting and manipulating text and objects

  • cutting/copying and pasting selected text/object/s;

  • formatting text;
  • understanding page layout;

  • editing and proofreading.

Advancing with WORD (2-4 hours):

This is a course for teachers who wish to refine their word processing skills. You should have basic Word, Windows and PC skills. Topics covered are:

  • working with headers/footers;

  • working with lists and bullets/numbering;

  • borders/shading;

  • inserting/formatting tables;

  • using columns;

  • inserting/editing graphics and using Word's drawing toolbar

Creating Professional Online worksheets with hyperlinks (4 hours):

This is a course for teachers who wish to develop their worksheet design and output. You should have basic Word, Windows and PC skills. Topics covered are:

  • using a Word document as an on-line worksheet and electronic notepad/scrapbook;

  • managing folders and files with Windows system tools;

  • multi-tasking with Word and the Internet using a search engine;

  • multi-tasking with Word and the Internet using URL hyperlinks;

  • using Word and hyperlinks to create an e-worksheet from scratch.

Introduction to POWERPOINT (2-4 hours):

This is a course for teachers who wish to develop their presentation delivery, design and output. You should have basic Windows and PC skills. Topics covered are:

  • applying templates;

  • using bulleted lists and images;

  • using borders and shading;

  • creating drawn objects and shapes;

  • applying preset animation and transitions;

  • adding backgrounds.

Advancing with POWERPOINT (2-4 hours):

This is a course for teachers who wish to extend their presentation design and output. You should have basic PowerPint, Windows and PC skills. Topics covered are:

  • setting up slide masters;

  • understanding stacking/layering;

  • grouping/ungrouping and selecting objects;

  • sizing, moving and cropping objects;

  • applying custom animation and sound;

  • exploring navigation techniques using action buttons.

  • creating/adapting templates for customised productions.

  • creating backgrounds;

  • examining design principles.

EXCEL for Beginners (4 hours):

This is a course for teachers who wish to develop their spreadsheet skills. You should have basic Windows and PC skills. Topics covered are:

  • opening/saving/closing worksheets;

  • EXCEL's on-screen worksheet features;

  • entering/editing data on a worksheet;

  • moving/selecting techniques;

  • deleting/clearing/moving cell block contents;

  • formatting the contents of a worksheet;

  • entering formulae to perform calculations.

  • understanding and exploring database techniques;

Introduction to ACCESS (4 hours):

This is a course for teachers who wish to develop their database skills. You should have basic Windows and PC skills. Topics covered are:

  • database fundamentals;

  • file naming conventions;

  • defining and creating an access table;

  • using different field types and formats;

  • entering, sorting, finding, deleting data;

  • understanding and using basic query language and reporting options to interrogate and output subsets of filtered data;

  • creating a simple data input form using Access' form wizard and form design tools
