The Multimedia Induction Programme

Course Overview & Rationale

The purpose of this course is to provide individuals with an opportunity to:

  • raise their awareness of multimedia and the application of e-learning in the classroom;

  • explore the world of multimedia and e-learning via the assessment and evaluation of 'real life' multimedia e-learning resources and case studies;

  • acquire the resources that will allow them to plan, develop, apply, assess and evaluate multimedia e-learning resources for use within the classroom or wider school community.

The course offers an opportunity for a customised programme on multimedia and e-learning technologies which is specifically focussed on the participant's educational context. Key features are its flexible context and its customised output.

The course is in line with the current national strategies and the need to use ICT in innovative and effective ways to increase the impact on learning and teaching in the context of lifelong learning.

Participant's will plan, develop, assess and evaluate multimedia e-learning resources, encompassing a wide range of multimedia elements - text, images, sounds, animation and video - to be applied within their own professional context.

The course follows a blended learning approach and the strong level of tutor support coupled with high quality course resources will help to maintain standards across the programme.

Accreditation:

Successful completion of the programme could provide some teachers with an opportunity to move on to an accredited pathway with a partnering University leading towards further awards such as an MA in Education.

Delivery, Learning Strategies & Venue

The method and mode of delivery and support is flexible and can be customised by prior negotiation. For example, delivered in-house, at a cluster venue or dedicated ICT learning centre.

The usual ELF model is to provide continuity via a blended learning programme that consists of face-to-face-support (18 hours), training and guidance over a period of 1-2 terms. This face-to-face support can be delivered in flexible blocks of time – whole day, half day or series of twilights.

Participant's will gain first-hand experience via ‘hands-on' activities and electronic resources provided within the course structure.

Personal skills and knowledge

Although the Multimedia Induction Programme is a basic course, it does require that you:

  • have basic PC and Microsoft Windows confidence;

  • are able to carry out basic folder and file management tasks using My Computer or Windows Explorer;

  • are familiar with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
